Philmont Scout Ranch hires approximately 120 conservation staffers every summer. The department attracts a wide variety of twenty-something-year-old personalities who work tirelessly managing the 220 square miles of forest and 315 miles of trails. With tall leather boots and faces covered in dirt, they seem to be an intimidating bunch. They’re often heard before they’re seen whether it’s the echoes of chainsaws, sledgehammers, or laughter. This series is an ode to just a handful of Philmont’s conservation staff who dedicate their summers to the land’s preservation.
